Current Events
| 6 April 2007: | Uh, April Fools! Not really, but we have decided to move the picnic to Saturday the 14th instead. This Sunday is Easter, so people may have other weekend plans. |
| 1 April 2007: | Wow! It has been a long time since an update. We are trying to get the site moved to our cyberbuzz space, but they are not being very helpful. If you are on the mailing list, you haven't missed anything. Looking ahead, we are planning a picnic on the 7th at Lake Lanier. More information coming soon, so watch your inboxes. |
| 24 August 2006: | Updated the officers list. Welcome back! |
| 19 April 2006: | Thanks to everyone who made the Film Festival a success! Check the Events Archive for photos. Next event: Russian Club picnic! It will be Tuesday the 25th from 6 to 8pm at the CRC volleyball courts (349 on the campus map). There will be food, drinks, and activities, so come help us close out the year before finals! |
| 31 March 2006: | The Film Festival section has been updated. One of the movies has been subsituted, and driving directions are now included. We hope to see you there next week! |
| 28 February 2006: | The dinner on Friday was a huge (~30 people) success! Thanks to everyone who attended. Check the Events Archive for a few photos. Coming soon: Elections this Wednesday, 6:00pm at Starbucks, to be followed by Russkiy Stol as usual. Come out to vote, then drink tea, play cards and/or chess, and chat in Russian. Also a new section of the site is in the works about the upcoming Film Festival in April. |
| 5 February 2006: | New section added about the GT Petersburg study abroad program! The deadline is 20 Feb. Email Prof. Goldberg for visa forms. |
| 29 January 2006: | Thanks to everyone who came out to the movie - hope you enjoyed it! There will be a Russkiy Stol (Russian Table) meeting at Starbucks 1 Feb. at 7pm. This will be a biweekly event where we can discuss anything and everything in Russian. Even if you're only studying Russian, come by and listen and participate as much as you can. It's good practice! |
| 27 January 2006: | There will be a Russian movie (probably Brat) shown (with subtitles) this Friday. Come watch it with us in IC 109 starting at 6:30pm. Movie description from the club email list: "The film follows the story of Danila, a nerdy young man, who visits his brother, a gangster, in Petersburg. There, Danila takes on his brother's responsibilities of crime. Watch the irony and surprise of someone so unimposing unfold in the underworld city of Petersburg." |
| 17 January 2006: | S Novym Godom! The first Russian Club meeting of the semester will be this Friday the 20th at 2:00pm in Student Center room 332. Summer Program: The Russian Language Program in St. Petersburg will last six weeks from 22 May to 8 July. The classes will be conducted at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and there will be homestay accommodations. The trip will also include a 4-day excursion to Moscow and several other sight-seeing opportunities. Fees are $3860 (including airfare!) plus 7 credit hours of tuition. Contact Prof. Stuart Goldberg if you're interested, and check the OIE website for an application. |
| 13 November 2005: | Details coming very soon on a Georgia Tech study abroad Russian program in St. Petersburg for Summer 2006! |
| 6 November 2005: | 1.
Pictures from the picnic have been uploaded - take a look. I hope you
all like the new Russianized Buzz that I put up recently also :) 2. This Thursday (10 Nov) from 7:30 to about 8:30 there will be an open discussion in Russian about music, art, politics, or whatever else comes up. It'll be at the Starbucks at Barnes & Noble, so come by and join in! If it's successful, maybe it'll become a regular thing. 3. There's going to be a movie, Dom Durakov, Thursday the 17th at 7:00 in the Instructional Center, room 113. |
| 23 October 2005: | We're putting on a "Pushkin" picnic in Piedmont Park on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 1-4pm. More details on the way soon. |
| 26 September 2005: | 1. The movie was great! We watched Operatsiya "Y",
a collection of three comedy shorts about a staged robbery, community
service at a worksite, and cramming for an exam (we can all relate to
this one!). 2. Regular meetings for the general membership have been postponed indefinitely due to, well, our college schedules. Anyone is invited to stop by at the officers' meetings, where the real work is done. The next one is Wednesday at 6:30 by Einstein's Bagels. 3. A picnic event is in the works for sometime in October. Keep an eye out for more information. 4. Our Constitution is online now, too, if you want to see. |
| 23 September 2005: | A movie will be shown Friday at 6:30pm. The location will be room 103 of the Instructional Center, and the movie to be watched will be chosen from a selection when we get there. Possible titles include Nochnoy Dozor, Brigada, Dom Durakov, and others. |
| 2 September 2005: | Our
first event of the Fall semester! We had a picnic get-together and
volleyball at the sand courts next to the CRC soccer fields. Saw some
old friends as well as some new faces, so we hope to have a very good
year. A reminder: The first official Russian Club meeting (of the semester) is Thursday, September 8th in room 320 of the Student Center at 2:30pm. |
| 22-23 April 2005: | Camping Trip at Lake Blue Ridge was a HUGE success! Check the new Events Archive for a few pictures. |
| 13 April 2005: | Meeting time is changed to 4:00! Also note the 13th is a Wednesday. Location TBA. |

| 7 March 2005: | We hope everyone enjoyed the Culture Fair on Skiles. We had a booth displaying a tri-board with descriptions of Russia and the former Soviet Republics, matryoshki (nesting dolls), and other bits of culture. We also gave out samples of Russian tea, beet salad, and candy. |
